Horseback Riding In Kelowna

We were recently in Kelowna for a bachelorette weekend with some girlfriends and had the opportunity to get out for some horseback riding.

It’s been nearly 6 years since I last went horseback riding. During our first road trip across Canada, we stopped at a horseback riding place in Ontario and went for an hour long trail ride. I used to ride often as a kid, but as an adult, I seem to never have time for it anymore.

Our horseback riding adventure actually started off on a bit of a bad note. The place we booked for our horseback riding called us minutes after we pulled into Kelowna from our 4 hour drive up from Vancouver, and cancelled our appointment. From no fault of their own, our riding guide was sick and they had no one else to take us out. It kind of left us scrambling to find another place, and we quickly learned that there weren’t many options in the Kelowna area.

Thankfully we were able to get in the same day with Pegasus Trail Rides. They booked the 5 of us for an afternoon ride and off we went. Our guide was super enjoyable, a little quirky, and very knowledgeable about horses. We went out on a wonderful 2 hour trail ride around the west side of Kelowna, overlooking the Okanogan Lake.

Sadly, there are some wildfires burning around BC right now, one being north of Kelowna. We were able to see smoke from the fire off in the distance while riding, but weren’t affected by the air quality like they are down in Vancouver right now.

After our 2 hour riding session we went out to the downtown area to hit up some nightclubs to celebrate our bachelorette weekend.

Road trip fact: I’ve road tripped through 10 provinces, and 48 states but have never been to Kelowna or the Kootenay area before. I’m hoping to spend quite a bit of time exploring BC this summer, after all it is my home province.
